Metabolic Testing in New Jersey
Have you found yourself in the dreaded weight loss plateau? Has your body suddenly decided that no amount of dieting and exercise will drop even a single pound? Located in Montclair, Dr. Shaikh and his staff at the Center for Bariatric Endoscopy, the “Premiere Bariatric Surgical Institute in New Jersey”, offer metabolic testing to residents to help them push beyond the “plateau” and start shedding those pounds and inches!
What is Metabolic Testing?
Metabolic testing is one of the latest advancements in weight loss. The test determines your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR), which is the number of calories your body burns at rest. This helps us determine if your metabolism is slower than average when compared to individuals with the same height and weight. A decreased RMR can make weight loss challenging, and may be a sign of other conditions.
Benefits of Metabolic Testing
The information obtained through metabolic testing is used by our Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Kathryn Valentine, to develop a plan that will help your body overcome the “weight loss plateau”.
How is Metabolic Testing Performed?
We can measure your metabolic rate to determine your exact caloric needs. Resting metabolic rate (RMR) testing is a simple breath test that measures your oxygen intake to determine how many calories you burn at rest. Your breathing will be monitored for 10 minutes while a machine monitors your carbon dioxide output.
Preparing for Metabolic Testing
Metabolic testing is an outpatient procedure that is performed in our office. No anesthesia is required, and the procedure requires no special medications. You will need to sit quietly during the test.
How Much Does Metabolic Testing Cost?
Metabolic testing is often covered by your insurance carrier. Out of pocket costs can vary depending on your copayment, coinsurance, deductible or other factors. Please call our office for further information.
Is Metabolic Testing Right for Me?
Metabolic testing is a non-invasive procedure available to anyone who wishes to assess their energy needs. This tool can be useful in comparing patients’ metabolic activity and can sometimes help explain difficulty with weight loss. If you are struggling with weight-loss, metabolic testing can be a useful tool to identify possible causes and help you work through them.
Why Choose the Center for Bariatric Endoscopy for Metabolic Testing?
At the Center for Bariatric Endoscopy, we have seen how weight loss plateaus can discourage patients from continuing with their weight loss programs. Metabolic testing is just one of the ways we support the incredible efforts of our patients. While metabolic testing is available in non-medical facilities, at our facility, you have access to Dr. Shaikh, an internationally respected interventional bariatric endoscopist and our on-site Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Kathryn Valentine.
What to Expect During Your Consultation for Metabolic Testing
During your consultation for metabolic testing, Kathryn will review your medical history and dietary habits. She may also suggest blood work or other diagnostic tests to rule out any other causes. If she determines that metabolic testing is right for you, she will explain the procedure and how the information gathered can be used to adjust your meal plan and exercise regimen.
