Endoscopic Gastroplasty (Endoscopic Gastric Sleeve) in New Jersey

Located in Montclair, the Center for Bariatric Endoscopy, the “Premiere Bariatric Surgical Institute in New Jersey”, offers Endoscopic Gastroplasty, also known as Endoscopic Gastric Sleeve, to patients from around the world. If you are clinically diagnosed as morbidly obese, you may be considering bariatric surgery. Chances are that you have tried to lose weight through a restricted diet, regular exercise, or even medically supervised weight loss programs. These approaches often do not provide the long-term results you want. If you are looking for an option that provides real results without major surgery, read on to learn more about the endoscopic gastric sleeve.

What is Endoscopic Gastroplasty?

Endoscopic Gastroplasty, also known as Endoscopic Gastric Sleeve, limits the amount of food that you eat by reducing the size of your stomach. The procedure resizes and remodels your stomach tissue to the shape of a banana using endoscopic suturing techniques that do not involve any outside cuts. The end result is similar to that of a gastric sleeve surgery but does not involve the removal of any portion of your stomach.

Benefits of Endoscopic Gastroplasty

Endoscopic Gastroplasty provides an option for weight loss that is far less invasive and less risky than traditional surgical procedures. Endoscopic Gastroplasty promotes weight loss through volume restriction and can help prevent or manage obesity-related diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure or heart disease.

How is Endoscopic Gastroplasty Performed?

Endoscopic gastroplasty is performed through the mouth using an endoscope and suturing equipment. The stomach tissue is sutured together to restrict the volume of your stomach to just a few ounces. Endoscopic gastric sleeve is typically a same-day procedure performed in an outpatient setting.

Preparing for Endoscopic Gastroplasty

Before your endoscopic gastric sleeve, you will be evaluated by Dr. Shaikh as well as your primary medical doctor. Medical clearance and a nutritional evaluation are required in the weeks leading up to your procedure. You may also be asked to follow a liquid diet for 1 week prior to your endoscopic gastroplasty.

Recovery from Endoscopic Gastroplasty

Recovery from endoscopic gastroplasty is quick and virtually painless, allowing you to get back to your normal routine after just a few days.  You will follow a special diet for 6-8 weeks. Most patients are able to eat about ¼ cup of food at each meal.  You will have to carefully and thoroughly chew your food before swallowing. You may also need to avoid certain foods, such as alcohol and fried food. Regular follow up with your Registered Dietitian Nutritionist is strongly recommended.

How Much Does Endoscopic Gastroplasty Cost?

The cost of Endoscopic Gastroplasty varies for each individual, as not all insurance providers cover the cost of endoscopic bariatric surgery. Before scheduling your endoscopic surgery, we can help you check with your insurance company to see if the procedure is covered. If there are any out-of-pocket costs to you, you may consider Advance Care Card for financing if needed. You may also want to connect with organizations that specialize in helping bariatric patients afford their surgery, such as the Obesity Action Coalition.

Is Stomach Endoscopic Gastroplasty for Me?

If you have been unable to lose weight through diet, exercise, and other methods, Endoscopic Gastroplasty may be right for you.  Endoscopic surgery is beneficial for those who cannot or do not want to undergo major surgery, but still need the help of a weight loss procedure to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
